The Quickening

Yesterday, while Warren and I were shopping, a sales clerk assisted us. Our conversation had been STRICTLY about the purchase of an item — NOTHING else …

… but there was something about this man. I can’t articulate what it was, but my pulse quickened and my spirit stirred as I listened to him differentiate between two probiotic products.

Finally, I could resist it no longer.  Abruptly changing the subject, it burst forth irrepressibly from my lips, much to my reserved husband’s chagrin.

“You are a follower of Jesus, aren’t you!” I blurted.

The scene froze in a time warp as Warren, no doubt wishing the floor would open up and swallow him whole, attempted to recover his equilibrium.

Even I held my breath. What if this total stranger WASN’T a believer??? What THEN???

“Well,” I reasoned undauntedly, “I will just have to give him an opportunity to BECOME one, that’s all!”

(Oh, the “pickles” I sometimes find myself in!!!)

Well, that man took off like gangbusters … and my shell-shocked husband breathed a sigh of relief, as did I!

Our clerk was indeed a brother-in-Christ — one whose affections were genuinely stirred up for Jesus!  The three of us proceeded to have a sweet time of fellowship! So humble and transparent he was, with Christ-likeness oozing from his every pore!

We were able to encourage him, but he encouraged us more!

Don’t you love it when your spirit bears witness with another person’s spirit because of the SAME Spirit Who lives in each of you???

What serendipitous moments the Lord gives us every now and again!

He’s like that, you know!

And He surely finds amusement, watching us walk out this walk of faith!

What a FUN-FILLED God we serve — One Who delights in delighting us!!!

Matthew 5:15

“Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket,

but on a lampstand,

and it gives light to all who are in the house” [or in the store].
